I’ve worked in the make up industry for around 6 years now professionally, and i have learned what it good to have and what is a waste to carry in my kit, a complete make up artist kit can be pricey (the three i use regularly are worth easily 10k) but it hasn’t always been like this. When i started, i started with just £200. I was in a bad situation and make up was my way out. Hopefully, budding make up artists, you have a little more dollar and a little more knowledge than i did. Hopefully, you’ll have access to some sort of student discount with a lot of these brands, and this will ease the stress!

The biggest questions i get from new make up artists are – What do i need in my make up kit?
What is a good beginners make up kit?
How do i build up a make up kit?
I hope to answer all of them here!

Also, if you aren’t getting into pro make up, I’m hoping you might discover some awesome products you might want to try that i have tried and tested over the years.
Here is my list of what your kit should be to start with and cover all your bases. This might be a little longer than most of my posts, but hopefully it will help you!
If you click on the products, i have hyper linked them to the specific product!

Other things you NEED
Train Case – a lot of make up artists i know went mental for the Zuca Bags, but they aren’t big enough or sturdy enough for me. They might be good for starting out, but i have a couple. I am currently loving This Emerald Trolley. My kits are stored in different cases so i don’t have to unpack and repack for different jobs.
Set Bag – this one is mine – its good for carrying things you need to grab quickly, generally all my Tools, Hygiene and Extras are in this bag.
Brush Belt, Apron or Roll – generally optional as how you store your brushes is upto you, but i find they’re a nice way to keep track of whats there, and also to keep you brushes off any unsterile work surfaces, i have a few Mac ones. They can be cleaned down with alcohol and be good as new!
Public Liability Insurance – I am covered by Pro Beauty

So thats it! Well done for getting this far, feel free to comment with any questions you have. I truly hope this has helped you !
