Pro discounts are the best way to get your kit built if you are a new Make Up Artist, but they an seem intimidating if you’ve never applied before. The idea of approaching a company and saying ‘I’m professional, can we do a deal?’ seemed terrifying for me as a young artist. But once you’ve got the hang of applying, its usually just a process of printing and scanning and posting. So I’m going to talk you through which Pro Schemes i am a part of,  here in the UK.

What are pro schemes?

Pro Discount Schemes, or ‘Industry Privilege Cards’ are a way for make up artists to get the products they need to work at a discount, by proving to the company they ARE genuinely in the industry. They range from 40% – 20% and most have a smaller discount for Students enrolled on a valid make up course.

What do they need?

If you’re new to the industry, the evidence they ask for can seem scary and entirely out of reach. I usually send all of the same evidence to all of the companies, regardless of how much or little they ask, this is usually because i can’t be bothered sorting through it all, and it means i have provided a wide and extensive range of evidence, which usually gets my applications approved quickly. These are the items i send, which are usually plenty.

– A copy of my photographic ID – Some companies ask, this generally proves I’m not trying to use anyones evidence as my own.
– A Copy of my business card – stating my given name and profession
– Contract or letter of employment –
a recently dated contract.
– A Comp Card (a small card with a selection of photos of your work and a small bio on the back)
A recent call sheet that lists my name and profession on production company paper.
 – A Letter of Recommendation – after any job i ask for a letter of recommendation on company headed paper
– A Price Sheet – This just shows the variety of services i provide
– Editorial Page with Name Credit (these can be hard to acquire if you’re working under a larger company)
– Bectu Union Card
